Lily is an 8 year old girl of Korean descent. She, her angry 14 year old sister, Sam, and stressed widowed mother, Joan, move in with her sick grandmother, Halmoni, a master storyteller. When a magical tiger pops up, straight out of Halmoni’s fairytales, with a sneaky deal - Lily doesn't know what to do. A long time ago, Halmoni stole something from the tigers. Now they want it back. The tiger claims that if Lily gives back what Halmoni stole, she’ll return Halmoni’s good health. But deals with tigers are never what they seem. This story is about finding your voice, the courage to stand out, but most importantly, the courage to trust.
One of the reasons I found this book interesting is the bond Lily shares with her Halmoni, the same connection I feel with my grandma. Both are fashionable, sassy, intelligent creatures.
